Woodbridge woman raped by stranger in her bedroom

A Prince William County woman reported that she was raped Wednesday morning by an armed stranger who entered her apartment about 4:30 a.m.

Prince William County police are searching for a man whom residents of the apartment complex had complained about for a month on the grounds that he seemed suspicious.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman, said she awoke to find the man in her bedroom with a handgun. Two children, who were sleeping in the apartment during the attack, were not harmed, and police said there were no signs of forced entry.

Neighbors said they had seen an unshaven black man with short black hair lingering in the area. Police are searching for a suspect who fits that description.

Jonathan Perok, a police spokesman, said that police received calls about the man about three times in the past month. Each time, police circulated the area and did not locate anyone suspicious. The man has not been linked with any other crimes in the neighborhood.
