Youth stabbed during altercation at Metro station in downtown Washington

A juvenile was stabbed during a fight involving several people Thursday night at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station in Southwest Washington, according to a Metro official and D.C. police.

Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokeswoman, said the victim was alert when transported to an area hospital. The victim’s condition was not immediately available.

The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. inside the station at 7th Street and Maryland Avenue Southwest. Lukas said she did not know if it occurred on the station platform or closer to the entrance. She said several people were involved in the altercation. The station is a block south of the Mall and the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

Lukas said that Metro Transit police may have detained a possible suspect, but it could not be learned if any arrests had been made. There were no delays to trains. D.C. police said the victim is a juvenile.
