Store chaos: Neal St. NE, 1500 block, Sept. 2. An animal control officer captured a rottweiler that was running loose and had entered a store, chasing workers out of the building. The dog was taken to the shelter, where it was reunited with its owner.
Abandoned animals: Benning Rd. NE, 1500 block, Sept. 10. A Humane Society officer removed two dogs and a cat left unattended for days in an apartment.
A marking behavior: 19th St. SE, 1600 block, Sept. 10. Responding to a complaint, a Humane Society officer met with a woman who explained that a urine odor was the result of her cat spraying on the apartment door. She was advised to have the animal neutered.
Adoptable cat: I St. SE, 1100 block, April 22. A stray 3-year-old cat was taken to the shelter.
Kitten saved: Bancroft Pl. NW, 2100 block, Sept. 4. A woman found a 4-week-old kitten in an abandoned deck and took it to the league.
Not enough space: Hemlock St. NW, 1200 block, Sept. 5. A woman relinquished her 1-year-old German shepherd to the league because she was moving to a smaller apartment.
Homeless animals from flood: Kiln, Miss., Sept. 6. The league took in nine dogs from the Hancock County Animal Shelter after severe flooding caused by Hurricane Isaac.
Homeless owner: Temple Hills, 23rd Pkwy., 4400 block, Sept. 10. A woman relinquished a 4-year-old Yorkshire terrier to the league because she no longer had a place to live.
