Abandoned dog: Half St. SW, 1200 block, Aug. 14. The Humane Society removed a pit bull from a residence after a tenant left behind after surrendering the keys to a management company.

Goat taken to shelter: V St. NE, 3100 block, Aug. 15. Officers picked up a pygmy goat that D.C. police had confined and took it to the shelter.

Ill owner: 15th St. SE, 200 block, Aug. 16. A black Lab mix and a domestic shorthair were surrendered to an officer by a caretaker who said that their owner was gravely ill.

Snake picked up: I St. NW, 900 block, Aug. 18. An officer picked up a four-foot rat snake from D.C. police.

Left with belongings: L St. SE, 1400 block, Aug. 18. A property manager reported that a tenant who was in the process of being evicted abandoned a cat in front of the building. An officer picked up the domestic medium-hair and took it to the shelter.

Adoptable dog: Georgia Ave. NW, 7300 block, April 30. A 37-pound, 2-year-old American Staffordshire terrier mix was found at the Georgetown Waterfront and surrendered to the shelter.

D.C. Walk for the Animals & Pet-A-Palooza: The Washington Humane Society will host its annual walk and festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Kingsbury Center, 5000 14th St. NW, near the Carter Barron Amphitheater. To register for the one-mile walk, go to The Pet-A-Palooza features live music, games, contests and activities. Adopt Force One, the society’s mobile adoption unit, will have animals for adoption.
