District police have identified a 28-year-old man who was fatally shot Wednesday night in the alley of a Southwest Washington public housing complex. A juvenile girl also was wounded, according to police.

Donald Ray Brown, of Northeast, was pronounced dead an at area hospital shortly after the shooting, which occurred about 9:15 p.m., in the 900 block of 3rd St. SW, in the Greenleaf Gardens development.

The shooting occurred about three blocks north of the 1st District police station and offices of the homicide unit, and near the Waterfront Metro station.

Police said they were first dispatched to the 300 block of K St. SW, but were then directed to an alley a block away on 3rd Street. Police said they found Brown unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said the juvenile was shot in the hand and was treated and released from a hospital.
