A 53-year-old cyclist died after she was struck by an SUV early Saturday in a hit-and-run that occurred at the intersection of Eighth and S streets in Northwest.
About 2:33 a.m., Tonya Reaves of Northeast Washington was biking on Eighth Street NW when a light-colored SUV traveling southbound on the street struck her, police say. Emergency responders took Reaves to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. D.C. police are searching for the driver who was last seen fleeing the scene in the vehicle, heading south on Eighth Street toward Rhode Island Avenue. Police said the SUV may have damage to its right front bumper.
