D.C. Lottery Executive Director Beth Bresnahan has resigned from her post and will depart Friday, officials confirmed Thursday.

Bresnahan, who became lottery director in 2018, will go home to Massachusetts to tend to family issues that can no longer be handled from a distance, said David Umansky, a spokesman for the city’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

Journalist Tom Sherwood first tweeted about Bresnahan’s resignation, which she submitted in January.

Nicole Jordan, a spokeswoman for D.C. Lottery, did not return an email or a phone call Thursday requesting comment.
