Md. state Sen Brian Frosh to launch bid for attorney general

Maryland Sen. Brian E. Frosh (D-Montgomery) plans to officially launch his campaign for attorney general with an e-mail to supporters Tuesday in which he pledges to be “the people’s lawyer” if elected, according to excerpts shared with The Post.

“In a world where powerful special interests seem to get all the breaks, too many Marylanders feel like their voices aren’t being heard,” Frosh says in the e-mail. “They want to know they’ve got an advocate who will fight for them. They want to know someone has got their backs. That’s why, after much encouragement from Marylanders across the state, I’ve decided to run for attorney general.”

Frosh, chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, has been gearing up for months to run for statewide office. He announced an exploratory committee for attorney general last fall that included several prominent names in the state’s Democratic establishment.

Frosh could face a crowded Democratic primary. Last week, Del. Jon S. Cardin (D-Baltimore County) formally kicked off his campaign with a Web video. Others eyeing next June’s primary include Del. C. William Frick (D-Montgomery) and Del. Aisha N. Braveboy (D-Prince George’s).

They are running to succeed Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler (D), who plans to announce his 2014 bid for governor in September.
