Just as the time approached to shut the Metro rail system down for the evening, trouble arose late Tuesday night.
Metro sent out an alert shortly after midnight alerting passengers to expect “residual delays” in both directions on the Red Line “due to an earlier train malfunction at Silver Spring.”
That was not the only malfunction that occurred in the system around the time of the Witching Hour.
At 12:07 a.m. users of the Orange, Blue and Silver Lines were told to expect delays in both directions because of a disabled train at Clarendon.
The official Metro rail closing time from Sunday through Thursday, as posted on the system’s website, is midnight.
