Traffic was disrupted on Interstate 95 in Prince William County on Saturday when an accident pulled down power lines onto the southbound lanes, authorities said.

Travelers on the interstate, one of the busiest on the East Coast, experience delays of all kinds. But few are connected to electrical lines.

The mishap occurred about 11:40 a.m. south of Joplin Road, police said. County resident
Michele Hickman said vehicles were stuck for about 90 minutes.

Dominion Virginia Power spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson said crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation were working in the median, and a backhoe accidentally pulled down the lines, which cross the highway at that point.

Anderson said a few buildings at the Quantico Marine Corps base were affected.
