Fairfax County schools hired a new division counsel, replacing lawyer Anne Murphy who is retiring.
John Foster comes to the school system from Falls Church, where he has served since 2008 as the city’s attorney. In Falls Church, Foster acted as the legal adviser to the Falls Church city school board and the city council.
Before that, Foster served eight years as an assistant attorney specializing in land use and rezoning laws with the Fairfax County Attorney’s Office.
As the school district’s counsel, Foster will represent the schools in cases involving staff and students, and provide legal advice on school board matters.
Foster graduated from the University of Virginia law school and received a bachelor’s degree from U-Va. in history and foreign affairs. He worked in private practice before serving as a Fairfax assistant attorney.
