What are the Common Core State Standards?
Hoping to shed some light, the Maryland State Department of Education is hosting four regional forums over the next month to discuss the state’s Common Core standards.
William Reinhard, a spokesman for the state education department, said the department has fielded and answered a number of questions about Common Core, which has been fully adopted in 45 states and District, but the forums are “an opportunity for parents and teachers, for that matter, to talk to the state superintendent directly.”
State Superintendent Lillian Lowery and Maryland PTA President Ray Leone will attend the forums.
The forums kick off at Easton High School in Talbot County on Sept. 10. Forums also will be held Sept. 16 at South Hagerstown High School in Washington County and on Sept. 19 at Ridge Ruxton School in Baltimore County.
The final discussion will be held for the Washington region on Oct. 1 at Charles H. Flowers High School in Prince George’s County.
All forums will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
