Prince George’s County residents will have their first opportunity to meet Kevin Maxwell, the new head of the county public school system, on Wednesday night during a “meet and great” hosted by the Board of Education.
The event, the first of three, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crossland High School in Temple Hills.
“Dr. Maxwell’s return to Prince George’s County Public Schools is an important step forward for this county,” School Board Chairman Segun Eubanks said in a statement. “He brings the type of energy, expertise and innovation that we need to move our schools forward.”
Maxwell, the Anne Arundel County school superintendent, was selected as the new schools chief in Maryland’s second-largest school system late last month.
Maxwell, who began his career as a teacher at Crossland and went on to top positions in Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties, is likely to start work in early August. He is in the process of negotiating his contract.
“Dr. Maxwell knows and is invested in Prince George’s County and its schools,” said County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D) in a statement. “He is committing his outstanding talents to ensuring that our school system is amongst the finest in the state. He was educated in our schools, he taught in our schools and now he will lead our schools. Dr. Maxwell is an innovative educator who has come full circle and I am confident that his greatest achievements are still yet to come.”
