The Prince George’s County Board of Education has scheduled two more opportunities for residents to meet Kevin M. Maxwell, the new schools chief.

County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D) recently named Maxwell, who currently serves as the Anne Arundel County school superintendent, to lead the school system.

The receptions will be held Tuesday, July 23, at G. James Gholson Middle School in Landover, and Thursday, Aug. 8, at DuVal High School in Lanham. Both sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Maxwell’s selection is part of Baker’s effort to revamp the governing structure of the school system. Under a new law, Baker was given the authority to select the school system’s chief executive officer.

Hundreds of people — parents, teachers, community leaders and elected officials — attended the first “meet and greet” session last week at Crossland High School in Temple Hills.

Maxwell, who started his career in Prince George’s and worked in the county for 22 years, will take the helm of the school system on Aug. 1. He has spent his entire career in the Washington region, the last seven as the school superintendent in Anne Arundel County.
