Two Fairfax crossing guards honored by VDOT

For helping children safely walk across busy streets, two Fairfax County schools crossing guards were honored for their work by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Phyllis Krapf, of Armstrong Elementary near Reston and Sherry Mull of Stratford Landing Elementary near Alexandria were named among a group of six to be Virginia’s Most Outstanding Crossing Guards of the year for 2013.

In nominating her, parents said that Krapf is known to show up to work early to help students walking to school get there safely. Parents said that Mull wears bright reflective gear to ensure her own safety while helping the youngsters navigate the high-traffic roads.

Two other Fairfax crossing guards received an honorable mention by VDOT: Chester Robinson of Crestwood Elementary and Joe McDonald Coats of McNair Elementary.
