Weekend brings two shooting in Southeast

Two men were shot in separate incidents in Southeast Washington over the weekend, authorities said Sunday.

On man was shot early Sunday, in the 800 block of Southern Avenue, SE, police said. The man was approached by two men at 2:25 a.m. and was shot in the shoulder and midsection. Police said he was transported to the hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The other man was shot while sitting in a car near the intersection of 16th and W streets, SE, at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, police said. Officer Anthony Clay, a D.C. police spokesman, said the victim reported hearing the sound of gunfire and then realized he had been shot in the cheek. His injuries also were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police have not identified motives in the cases, Clay said. Both are under investigation.
