A bomb squad was called to College Park Friday morning for the third time in a week, after an explosive device was found in a van parked in the 5000 block of Edgewood Road.

Prince George’s County Fire/EMS temporarily evacuated nearby residents, while the bomb squad rendered the device safe.

On Dec 18, a small pipe bomb exploded just before 2 a.m. on a porch at a house in the 8800 block of 48th Ave. It caused minimal damage, and no one was hurt.

Another device was later found in the 9000 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Brady said.

“There is a strong possibility they are connected,” said Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department spokesman Mark Brady.

The investigation of the Rhode Island Avenue incident lead authorities to Edgewood Road, he said. Authorities found the explosive device while executing a search warrant, WJLA reported.

Investigators have detained at least one man, whom Brady said was “a person of interest.”
