The following incident was reported by the Animal Control Division of the Fairfax County Police Department. For information, call 703-246-2253.

Dog bites woman: Tyler Ave., 7200 block, 11:50 a.m. July 18. A loose Jack Russell bit a woman walking, causing a minor injury. The dog was quarantined.

Fairfax City

The following incidents were reported by the animal control section of the Fairfax City Police Department. For information, call 703-385-7924 or go to and click on “Animal Control” on the police department’s main page.

Cat family found: Spring Lake Terr., 3500 block, July 25. A man found a mother cat and three kittens in his shed. They were taken to the city’s shelter, where they will be placed for adoption.

Dog locked in vehicle: Main St., 9400 block, July 23. Animal control was called about a dog locked inside a vehicle. The owners removed the dog before animal control arrived. A warning was issued.

Dog bites aid: Orchard St., 10700 block, July 23. A dog bit a home care aid. The dog was quarantined at home for 10 days.

Mockingbird trapped: Democracy Lane, 10300 block, July 26. A mockingbird flew into a vaulted glass ceiling outdoors and could not figure out how to get out. Animal control officers guided the bird out.


The following incidents were reported by the Vienna Police Department. For information, call 703-255-6396.

Dog locked in vehicle: Maple Ave. E., 100 block, 3:20 p.m. July 20. Animal control was called about a dog locked in a vehicle in a parking lot. The owner returned after several minutes and was issued a summons for cruelty to animals.

Wanderer: Knoll St. NW, 400 block, 6:13 p.m. July 22. A woman found a small brown dog wandering in the street. Animal control took the dog to the Fairfax County animal shelter.

Cat scratches employee: Park St. SE, 100 block, 8:57 a.m. July 25. A cat jumped from an examination table and scratched an animal hospital employee on the leg.
