FAIRFAX COUNTY

Valentine’s Day at the animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter will have rabbits, dogs and cats available for adoption from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event offers candy, ice cream and information on volunteer opportunities and fostering homeless pets. Adoption fees are waived for the shelter’s 10 “heartbreaker” pets. 703-830-1100.

FAIRFAX CITY

The following incidents were reported by the animal control section of the Fairfax City Police Department. For information, call 703-385-7924 or go to www.fairfaxva.gov and click on “Animal Control” on the department’s main page.

Trash landing: Tusico Pl., 3800 block, Feb. 3. An animal control officer picked up a bat that was flying in a bedroom where someone was asleep and that later landed inside a trash can. The bat was euthanized.

No one exposed to rabies: Main St., 1050 block, Feb. 3. Animal control picked up a bat that was flying in the hallway of an office building. It was released outdoors.

Cat quarantined after bite: Farrcroft Green , 3800 block, Feb. 1. Responding to a call that a 64-year-old man was bitten on the hand by a friend’s cat, the animal was placed under a 10-day quarantine.

Vienna

The following incidents were reported by the Vienna Police Department. For information, call 703-255-6396.

Owner agrees to resolve problem: Frederick St. SW, 600 block, 2 p.m. Jan. 31. Responding to a complaint about a barking dog in the neighborhood, an animal control officer informed the owner about the nuisance barking law.

Resident waits for test results: Hunter Ct. SW, 700 block, 9:27 p.m. Feb. 1. An animal control officer captured a bat that had entered a residence occupied by a woman and her cats and took it to the shelter to be tested for rabies.
