FAIRFAX CITY

Claimed in a week: Fairfax Blvd., 10700 block, July 12. Animal control picked up a beagle mix that was loose in a shopping center parking lot and took it to the shelter.

Overnight stay: University and Layton Hall drives, July 13. A man was with his dog when he was arrested for drinking in public. The dog was taken to the shelter and claimed the next day.

On the prowl: Brookwood Dr., 3400 block, July 15. A man found a 9-week-old kitten in his back yard and took it to the shelter.

Weighty matter: Fairfax Blvd., 9700 block, July 13. An employee of a boarding kennel was bitten by a cat while attempting to weigh the animal. The cat was quarantined.

Vienna

The following incidents were reported by the Vienna Police Department. For information, call 703-255-6396.

Owner sought: Park St. SE, 100 block, 10:24 a.m. July 13. A stray dog was dropped off at the shelter.

Raccoon dies: Dogwood St. SW, 100 block, 3:56 p.m. July 14. An animal control officer picked up a raccoon that had been lying under a parked vehicle all day and took it to the shelter.

No way out: Princess Ct. SW, 500 block, 5:47 p.m. July 14. Animal control removed a raccoon that was trapped in a fenced back yard and released it.

Owner was unaware: Nutley St. SW, 300 block, 4:07 p.m. July 16. Animal control found a loose dog and returned the animal to its owner. The dog had escaped from the back yard.
