FAIRFAX CITY

The following incidents were reported by the animal control section of the Fairfax City Police Department. For information, call 703-385-7924 or go to www.fairfaxva.gov and click on “Animal Control” on the department’s main page.

Barking at a bat: Brookwood Dr., 3500 block, July 19. Animal control picked up a dead bat that a dog had found in the back yard. The bat tested negative for rabies.

Newly adopted dog escapes: Old Post Rd., 3500 block, July 19. Animal control picked up and took to the shelter a Labrador mix whose leash had become tangled underneath a bush. The dog was treated for a cut in its paw and was claimed by its new owners.

Abandoned in the yard: Fairfax Blvd., 9800 block, July 24. A woman found three 7- to 8-week-old kittens and took them to the shelter.

Vienna

The following incidents were reported by the Vienna Police Department. For information, call 703-255-6396.

Owner alert: Tapawingo Rd. and Desale St. SW, 8:44 p.m. July 19. An animal control officer picked up a Yorkshire terrier that was running loose and took it to the shelter.

Disappearing act: West St. NW, 300 block, 7 a.m. July 23. An animal control officer responded to a report of a raccoon in a back yard that appeared sick but could not find the animal.
