FAIRFAX CITY

The following incidents were reported by the animal control section of the Fairfax City Police Department. For information, call 703-385-7924 or go to fairfaxva.gov and click “Animal Control” on the department’s main page.

Cruising the streets: Tedrich Blvd., 3900 block, Sept. 26. An officer picked up a stray Labrador retriever and took the animal to the shelter. The dog was scanned for a microchip. An owner claimed the dog the same day.

Wrong hospital: Campbell Dr., 3100 block, Sept. 26. Employees from an animal hospital found a white dove with a broken leg. An officer sent the bird to another facility specializing in treating exotics and wildlife.

Beyond help: Parklane Rd., 3600 block, Sept. 25. A police officer, responding to a call about a sick raccoon, sent the animal to the shelter. Veterinarians examined the lethargic raccoon, which probably had internal injuries and possible lung damage, and determined it could not be saved. It was euthanized.
