Falconing helped Rodney Stotts escape the violent streets of Southeast Washington, by way of the Anacostia River, where the birds nest. Now he’s working with Wings Over America to show others the way.
Rodney Stotts gives Lola, a Eurasian eagle-owl, a drink of water at his Fort Washington home. Lola is about 14 years old and weighs about 11 pounds. Stotts is a self-described "animal junkie" who has owned everything from spiders and lizards to birds of prey. "I’ve had just about any pet you can think of," he said. “Half the people around here do not know my name — they call me Dr. Doolittle.” Bonnie Jo Mount/The Washington Post Buy Photo
