Federal agencies will be open on Thursday as the region braces for potential severe weather, but employees may take unscheduled leave or work from home, the Office of Personnel Management said early Thursday.
Jason Samenow, the Washington Post’s chief meteorologist, said a cluster of thunderstorms could affect the morning commute, although he said the worst of the storms are projected for midmorning through late afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 a.m. for the District.
Non-emergency employees must notify their supervisors of their intent to use unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework. OPM said eligible employees may use annual leave, earned compensatory time off, earned credit hours, or leave without pay.
