People going out late at night are often advised to avoid becoming crime victims by walking in groups. On Sunday morning, however, in a Northwest Washington neighborhood, even a group of four apparently found the odds stacked against them.

According to a report given to D.C. police, the four, who were held up just north of the Columbia Heights area said they faced a total of six guns.

The account said the four were robbed about 1:30 a.m. at 14th and Shepherd Streets NW. They told police that they were confronted by three robbers. Each of the robbers, according to the report, was armed with two handguns.

The robbers took money and cellphones, police said.

Each robber was described as black and male, and according to the report, each wore a black jacket and a black shirt. All three wore black ski masks, the report said.

One was said to be 5 feet 6, and another 5 feet 7. The third was said to be 6 feet 1 or 2.
