Fourth of July closings: Banks, post offices, transportation, liquor stores and more

Here is a list of what’s closed and what’s open Thursday on the Fourth of July:


— Most banks.

— All federal government offices.

— Post offices: No mail delivery except for Express Mail.

— Courts: Except for adult arraignments and new juvenile referrals in the District.


— District: Rush hour restrictions lifted. No meter fees except in Nationals Stadium neighborhood.

— Maryland: No meter fees except at New Carrollton garage and National Harbor.

— Virginia: HOV restrictions lifted on I-66 and I-395. Meters not enforced in Alexandria and Arlington County.


— District: No collection; pick-ups slide to the next day.

— Maryland: No collection. In Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties collections slide one day to end of the week. In Prince George’s, collection is made on the next regularly scheduled day. In Howard, Thursday collection is on Friday and both Friday and Saturday collections are on Saturday. Landfills and Montgomery transfer station are closed.

— Virginia: Regular pick-up in Arlington and Fairfax counties. No collection in Fairfax City; pick-up slides one day. Landfills closed in Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William counties. No pick-up in City of Alexandria; trash slides one day.


— District: Open at owner’s discretion.

— Maryland: ABC stores open in Montgomery County. Open at owner’s discretion in other jurisdictions.

— Virginia: ABC stores open until 6 p.m.


— District: Closed.

— Maryland: Closed.

— Virginia: Closed.


— District: Closed.

— Maryland: Closed.

— Virginia: Closed.


— District: Closed.

— Maryland: Closed.

— Virginia: Closed.


— Metrorail will run from 7 a.m. to midnight on a Saturday schedule with near rush-hour service after 6 p.m. Riders should avoid using Smithsonian or Federal Triangle because of peak ridership for events on the Mall. Smithsonian will be “entry-only” at the close of the fireworks.

— Metrobus runs on a Saturday schedule.

— Metro Access has regular service but subscription trips are canceled.

— Ride On and Fairfax Connector will run on Saturday schedule.

— CUE will have special event service only.

— ART will run routes 41 and 51 only, on a Sunday schedule.

— Dash will run on a Sunday schedule. MTA Commuter Bus will run route 301 only, on a weekend/holiday schedule.

— The Bus, PRTC Omiride, Loudoun Bus, MARC and VRE will not be running.
