Incident in D.C. becomes a mini-crime spree

Near K Street NW, and a few blocks from the White House, an unusual incident occurred early Saturday that involved five people, two beatings, one robbery, and a couple of possibly unexpected turns of events.

According to a police account, someone was allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in the 1000 block of Vermont Avenue NW about 4:15 a.m.

Three people went to the girlfriend’s aid. The three strangers, the police said, began to pummel her alleged attacker.

Then, in an act that did not enhance confidence in their motives, the three, according to police, took his money and his cellphone.

The robbers fled. Police arrived. They said the robbery victim was arrested. They said the charge was simple assault, in connection with the original attack on the girlfriend.
