Two people were attacked with a knife near the Georgetown Waterfront on Sunday evening, authorities said. A man was taken into custody in the incident, they said.

The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of K Street NW, according to Secret Service spokeman Max Milien. The arrest was made by officers of the uniformed division of the Secret Service.

Milien noted that members of the division patrol throughout the city. It is nothing new, he said, for them to make arrests in incidents encountered during their patrols.

The site of the incident is near the Georgetown Harbour development, which overlooks the Potomac River and includes restaurants, stores and condominiums. The area is popular with residents and visitors, and it appeared that many people witnessed the commotion that ensued.

Details of what happened were not immediately available. One witness said it may have involved a taxicab or other hired or chauffeured vehicle.
