Woman’s car knocked into her on Route 29

A 50-year-old Silver Spring woman was seriously injured Saturday night as she stood near her disabled car on Route 29 in Howard County, authorities said.

Another car ran into the disabled vehicle, which then struck the woman and pushed her into the guardrail, Howard County police said.

They said Debra Watson of Castle Boulevard had been standing on the southbound shoulder of Route 29 near Route 216 in the Laurel area about 9:50 p.m.

The woman was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in serious but stable condition, police said.

They said Sunday that the incident was under investigation.

Two deputies injured pursuing robber

Two Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies were injured Saturday as they pursued a man who was trying to steal TVs from the Costco in Sterling, authorities said.

The man was apparently fleeing the Costco at Price Cascades Plaza when deputies spotted him about 3:45 p.m., authorities said. As he got into a car, authorities said, he slammed one deputy’s hand in his driver’s side door. Then, as he drove away, the man dragged for about 60 feet another deputy, who was trying to grab him through a window, authorities said.

The man also struck a sheriff’s office car, authorities said.

Both deputies were treated and released from a hospital, and the robber got away, authorities said.

Loudoun County sheriff’s officials asked anyone with information about the case to call Detective W. Promisel at 703-777-0475. They said the robber was believed to be driving a 2004-06 model Acura with New York tags.
