A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in Southeast Washington early Saturday, D.C. police said.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of 23rd Street about 12:25 a.m. and found the body of Javar Robert Allen of Southeast, police said.
Allen had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A 25-year-old man’s body was recovered from the Anacostia River in Prince George’s County after a two-hour search Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The man was one of three people who were swimming together at the Bladensburg marina, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the county fire department. Only two returned to shore about 2:30 p.m., he said. Rescuers found the body about 4:30 p.m.
The official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, Brady said. Officials did not immediately identify the man.
During the search, Prince George’s firefighters worked with private boaters and kayakers, the D.C. fire department, county police and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, authorities said.

Verizon is offering a reward of as much as $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of people responsible for thefts at company garages and central offices in Maryland.
In recent weeks, thieves have cut through company fences and stolen about $300,000 worth of installation and testing equipment for Verizon’s FiOS fiber-optic network, other tools and copper wire. Lanham, Annapolis and Rockville are among the locations where thefts have been reported.

Virginia wines are continuing to sell at a record-breaking pace.
Gov. Robert F. McDonnell said recently that Virginia wineries sold more than 511,000 cases in the fiscal year that ended June 30. The previous record was nearly 485,000 cases sold in fiscal 2012.
McDonnell said new sales to China accounted for a significant portion of export sales.
In fiscal 2013, the state received more than $1.7 million in wine liter tax revenue from the sale of Virginia wines.
