Man found fatally shot in Southeast

A 25-year-old man was found fatally shot Sunday morning in Southeast Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officials identified the victim as Jeffrey Jarrell Garnett of Southeast.

Police officers were working on another investigation when they found the man, at 6:37 a.m., unconscious in the 3500 block of Stanton Road SE. His body was taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

6-year-old boy
drowns in lake

A 6-year-old boy drowned Sunday in Charles County when he slipped into a lake while playing with friends, the county sheriff’s office said.

The boy was playing at the edge of the water near Drake Court in the Waldorf area about 2:15 p.m. when the accident occurred, said Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

His friends ran for help, and rescuers, including members of a dive team, arrived quickly and pulled him out, she said. However, the boy died at Charles Regional Medical Center.

The boy’s name was not released. It was not clear how deep the water was where he fell in.

Wheaton man killed in car crash

Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred early Sunday in Wheaton. According to police, David Wayne Mills of Wheaton was driving north on Connecticut Avenue when the car he was driving hit the right curb and overturned. Police were called to the scene at about 1:20 a.m.

Mills, 54, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
