Police identify three fatally shot Friday

The three people found fatally wounded in the District Heights area Friday were identified Saturday as Zonita M. Roberts, 42, of Smyrna, Ga., Angela L. Johnson, 43, of Iverson Street in Oxon Hill, and her recently estranged husband, Leroy Johnson Jr., 45.

Prince George’s County police said they think that Johnson shot the women, then himself. They said a handgun was found was found in the house, in the 1500 block of Addison Road South.

Car crash kills two
in Upper Marlboro

Prince George’s County police are investigating a two-car crash in Upper Marlboro that left two women dead Friday night.

Police said that Aarrayn Perez, 19, of Ranch Road in Upper Marlboro and her passenger, Barbara Armes, 66, of 19th Street in Southeast Washington died. Injuries to the driver of the second vehicle were not believed to be life-threatening.

Perez was driving on North Riding Road when police say they believe she failed to yield the right of way when turning north onto Ritchie Marlboro Road and her venicle was struck.

Perez and Armes were pronounced dead at the scene.

Woman seriously hurt
in Bay Bridge accident

The westbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was closed Saturday after a multiple-vehicle accident in which three people were injured, Maryland Transit Authority officials said.

Three people were taken to hospitals, including a 45-year-old woman who was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred about 11 a.m. and involved at least three vehicles. The westbound span was closed for more than two hours, and one eastbound lane was closed to allow access for emergency vehicles. At one point, traffic backed up 10 miles.

Arrest in shooting
that wounded six

D.C. police have arrested a suspect in the Aug. 10 wounding in Southwest of three men and three women.

Police said Leonard Johnson, 21, of Southeast was arrested Friday and charged with assault with intent to kill while armed.

Police are searching for a second suspect in the shootings in the unit block of N Street SW: Saeve Edward Evans, 28. The investigation is continuing, a police spokesman said. The shootings took place early in the morning.

All victims suffered gunshot wounds. Four were taken to a hospital, and two later walked in for medical treatment.

VIRGINIA
Man hit by SUV dies; DUI charge filed

A Sterling man was fatally struck Friday night in Loudoun County by a driver believed to be drunk, authorities said.

Jeffrey A. Carter, 53, was crossing Cascades Parkway when he was hit by a 2010 Ford Explorer about 10 p.m., said sheriff spokesman Kraig Troxell.

Pierpaolo Verrone, 47, of Sterling, stayed at the scene. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
