A 47-year-old woman remained hospitalized Thursday after jumping in front of a train at the Tenleytown Metro station Wednesday night, transit officials said.

Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokeswoman, said the woman is being treated for serious leg injuries.

The woman was hit by an inbound Red Line train about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The incident caused Metro to single-track inbound and outbound service, creating delays of 15 to 20 minutes between the Van Ness and Friendship Heights stations.

1 dead, 1 injured in
Gaithersburg crash

Montgomery County police said they are investigating a Thursday morning SUV crash in Gaithersburg that left a man dead and a woman seriously injured.

A sport-utility vehicle overturned about 1:30 a.m. on East Diamond Avenue after hitting a utility pole, a bus shelter, a tree, a fire hydrant and a pole-support cable, police said.

The crash occurred after an officer tried to the stop the driver for failing to dim the vehicle’s high-beam headlights, police said.

The driver sped away from the officer and ran a red light before leaving the roadway, police said.

Both people in the SUV were thrown from it.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
