Corrections department fire was arson, authorities say

A fire that damaged the building that houses the Loudoun County Department of Community Corrections in Leesburg was determined to have been arson, authorities said Friday.

No one was injured in the fire, which was quickly extinguished after fire and rescue units arrived about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, fire officials said.

Damage was extensive and estimated at $200,000. Corrections staff members have been relocated to a building on Edwards Ferry Road NE in Leesburg until further notice, officials said.

Public safety forum Nov. 27for University Station area

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will have a public safety meeting for the University Station area Nov. 27.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Ashburn Library, 43316 Hay Rd., Ashburn.

The sheriff’s office schedules quarterly public safety meetings in each of the county’s four service areas. Residents, homeowners associations, community groups and town representatives are invited.

Discussion topics will include recent crimes, crime trends and traffic safety concerns. The meeting will be led by a sheriff’s office captain who represents the service area.

Sheriff Mike Chapman or a member of his leadership team will attend, as will supervisors from the Criminal Investigations and Special Operations divisions, community police officers and crime prevention deputies.

Feedback on renovationof community center sought

Loudoun County is seeking public input on options for the proposed renovation of the Lovettsville Community Center, which is planned as part of the county’s Capital Improvement Program for fiscal 2014.

An informational meeting on the project is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in the gymnasium of the community center, 57 E. Broad Way, Lovettsville.

County staff members will discuss the results of a facility assessment survey, which includes renovation options for the building and construction options for a new facility on the site.
