For the fourth year, Loudoun County property owners are being asked to complete the vehicle reporting process online, which replaces the need to return by mail a form for each automobile, truck, motorcycle, camper, trailer, boat, motor home or aircraft a taxpayer owns.
Residents will receive notices by mail that include an account number to use to review and update personal property tax records for the 2013 tax year. Changes should be reported at www.loudoun.gov/vehicle-file.
Residents can report corrections, address changes, the sale or disposal of a vehicle or unusually high mileage, because these factors can affect property valuations and the number of months for which residents must pay taxes. Changes must be submitted by Feb. 1 to establish accurate assessments for the year.
To avoid late fees, residents must report newly acquired vehicles or those that have recently entered Loudoun to the commissioner of the revenue within 60 days of purchase or a move to the county. For information or filing assistance, go to www.loudoun.gov/cor or contact the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue at email@example.com or 703-777-0260.
Taxpayers who do not have Internet access may submit a written statement for any changes or stop by the commissioner of the revenue offices in Leesburg or Sterling from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The Leesburg office is on the first floor of the government center, 1 Harrison St. SE. The Sterling office is at 21641 Ridgetop Cir., Suite 100.
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors set its meeting schedule for 2013 and elected Supervisor Shawn Williams (R-Broad Run) as vice chairman.
