A veteran Loudoun County art teacher is facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, authorities said Thursday.

Ralph Watts Conrad III, 43, of Hamilton was a teacher at Algonkian Elementary school in Sterling, but also filled in as an art teacher at a handful of other elementary schools in the county over the past several years, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.

At this point, no Loudoun schoolchildren are involved in the case, the sheriff’s office said. Conrad has been a teacher in Loudoun County for 15 years.

He was arrested Sept. 10 and was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography, the sheriff’s office said.

Conrad also taught at Belmont Station Elementary, Lowe’s Island Elementary, Frances Hazel Reid, Legacy Elementary, Mill Run Elementary and Creighton’s Corner Elementary.

Conrad is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond. He is on administrative leave from Loudoun public schools pending the final outcome of the criminal charges.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are trying to determine if there are other victims. Detectives have asked anyone with information regarding the case or any suspicious contact or relationships with Conrad to contact them at 703-777-0475.
