Loudoun teenage driver charged in crash that injured 3 children

A 15-year-old Ashburn girl who authorities said accidentally drove onto a sidewalk and struck three children has been charged with reckless driving, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen had her learner’s permit and was receiving a driving lesson from her father around 6:45 p.m. on March 14 when she mistakenly hit the accelerator, causing the Toyota Camry to jump a curb and strike three girls who were playing, authorities said.

The car continued to roll through the yard and into a wooded area at the end of the cul-de-sac before coming to a stop, officials said.

The driver was issued a juvenile petition for reckless driving in connection to the accident, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.

A 7-year-old girl was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she remains hospitalized in stable condition. The other girls, two sisters ages 8 and 10, were taken to Inova Loudoun Hospital with less serious injuries and were released March 15, officials said.
