Man found stabbed near Navy Yard in D.C.

A man was stabbed and seriously wounded Wednesday afternoon near the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said.

About 3:30 p.m., officers were called to help a person in the 1900 block of 3rd Street SE, about four blocks from the Navy Yard, said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman. They found the man conscious and breathing, and he was taken to a hospital with wounds that were serious, but apparently not life threatening.

It was not clear what led to the assault, police said.
