A man armed with a Taser broke into a home in Northwest Washington Wednesday morning and tried to sexually assault a woman, according to D.C. police.

Police said the incident occurred about 10 a.m. in the 2700 block of Chesapeake St. near Cleveland Park. Police said the man knocked on the woman’s door and forced his way inside when she answered.

The man, who also had pepper spray, threatened the woman with the Taser and tried to sexually assault her before fleeing, police said.

Authorities did not release further details, including why the man ran. The crime is classified as an attempted sexual assault, an assault while armed and burglary.

Police said the victim did not know the assailant.

Police described the suspect as a white male about 50 years old and 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has grey hair, was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and was possibly driving a red Volvo.

Authorities said this attack does not appear to be related to a series of burglaries which two men, one armed with a knife, another with a gun, have committed in Northeast Washington over the past week. In one of those cases, police said one of the men sexually assaulted a woman and fired a gunshot at her husband when he tried to intervene.
