Manassas day care director charged with assault of two children

A day care director was arrested Friday and charged with physically assaulting two children under her care.

Arousha Shahin, 39, runs S.M.I.L.E. Day Care in Manassas. The facility is not listed in the state’s online directory of licensed and regulated unlicensed child care providers, which includes certified preschools and religious exempt day care facilities.

Prince William police said they responded to an anonymous tip about the day care. After investigating they charged Shahin with assault of a 5-year old girl and a 6-year-old boy.

Shahin was held on $10,000 bond and appeared in court Monday. She is scheduled to appear in court again Wednesday.
