Zucker to be sworn in as a state senator

Del. Craig J. Zucker (D-Montgomery) will be sworn in Thursday to fill an empty seat in the state Senate.

Zucker was nominated by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee last month to fill the Senate seat vacated by Karen S. Montgomery (D-Montgomery).

Gov. Larry Hogan (R) forwarded Zucker’s name to Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert) on Wednesday.

Zucker is expected to play a critical role in a significant vote: whether to override Hogan’s veto of a 2015 bill that would allow felons to vote while they are on parole or probation.
