Two adults and two juveniles were shot and wounded Wednesday night during an incident in a residential block in Anacostia, D.C. police said.
Officers found the victims at the intersection of 16th and Butler streets SE after police responded to a call for a shooting just before 9 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. All four victims were taken to hospitals, and their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, police said.
According to preliminary reports, the victims suffered wounds to their extremities.
Police released no immediate details about what might have led to the gunfire.
Del. Craig J. Zucker (D-Montgomery) will be sworn in Thursday to fill an empty seat in the state Senate.
Zucker was nominated by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee last month to fill the Senate seat vacated by Karen S. Montgomery (D-Montgomery).
Gov. Larry Hogan (R) forwarded Zucker’s name to Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert) on Wednesday.
Zucker is expected to play a critical role in a significant vote: whether to override Hogan’s veto of a 2015 bill that would allow felons to vote while they are on parole or probation.
Prince George’s County police arrested an Upper Marlboro woman Wednesday and charged her with first-degree murder.
Markena Townsend, 32, is accused of killing Gilbert Hall III, 45, on Saturday, police said.
Police spokesman Tyler Hunter said the motive in the shooting was drug-related.
He declined to say more about the circumstances.
Police found Hall, of Northeast Washington, suffering from gunshot wounds in the 300 block of Addison Road South in Capitol Heights.
The shooting of a man in Suitland on Wednesday is being investigated as a homicide, Prince George’s police said.
Officers called to the 2500 block of Darel Drive found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
