State Sen. Jamie Raskin has raised more than a half-million dollars in his Democratic primary campaign for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, his campaign announced Tuesday.

Finance reports for the second quarter of the calendar year are due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission next week. Raskin’s campaign said in a statement that he has raised $553,000 from more than 2,400 donors. Nearly 75 percent of Raskin’s donations came in amounts of $100 or less, according to the campaign.

The congressional seat is being vacated by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), who is running for the U.S. Senate.

“I am humbled by this outpouring of early grassroots support as I seek to replace our great Congressman Chris Van Hollen,” Raskin said in his statement.

Other Democratic candidates are Dels. Kumar P. Barve (D-Montgomery) and Ana Sol Gutierrez (D-Montgomery), former Obama White House aide Will Jawando, former news anchor and Marriott executive Kathleen Matthews and former Montgomery County Council member Valerie Ervin.
