Fire personnel responded to Six Flags America in Maryland on Thursday evening after 24 people became stuck on a roller coaster at the amusement park.

About 5:45 p.m., Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire Department, tweeted that the department was called to Six Flags in Upper Marlboro after the Joker’s Jinx ride stalled with 24 riders on board.

In a statement, Six Flags spokeswoman Denise Stokes said the ride “did not complete its regular ride cycle, causing it to stop at a safe location on the track.”

By about 8:15 p.m., rescuers safely brought 10 people about 75 feet to the ground in a cherry picker, and they were “all okay,” Brady said. Four firefighters were at the top of the roller coaster.

The other riders were back on the ground by about 9:20 p.m. The youngest were 9 and 10, and about half of the riders were adults, Brady added.

“None of the riders were in any type of distress,” Brady said. “There were no medical issues, so we could take our time and get them down safely. There was no need to rush.”

On the coaster, the riders were upright, a Six Flags spokesman said, and a high-angle team helped to get the riders down. The plan was to get children down first. Rescuers deployed two ladder trucks — one from District Heights and another from Anne Arundel County — to rescue riders.

“The safety of our guests is our highest priority and the ride will be closed for a thorough inspection,” Stokes said.

This is not the first time people have been stuck on the Joker’s Jinx. In 2014, 24 riders, including seven children, were stuck on the stalled ride for as long as five hours. The rescue made national and international headlines.

A judge later ordered the park to award one family $60,000 in the incident — $10,000 for each family member stuck on the ride.

The Six Flags website describes the Joker’s Jinx as a “hilariously intimidating concoction” designed “by the world’s most notorious super villain.” It was introduced in 1999, reaches a top speed of 60 mph and lasts 75 seconds.

“You will simply be pulsed into the middle of the excitement pretty much instantly, so try to brace yourself,’’ the site read.
