Disappearing vulture: Bournefield Way, 11900 block, Oct. 1. Silver Spring. After a call about a possibly injured turkey vulture, a Humane Society field agent drove around the reported area but was unable to locate the bird.
Duo on the loose: Frankfort Dr. W., 4600 block, Oct. 1. Rockville. Responding to a call about a poodle mix and a Shih Tzu mix, an animal services officer captured the Shih Tzu and took it to the county animal shelter. The officer chased the other dog home. When the owner went to the shelter to claim the first pet, two $100 citations for at-large pets were issued.
Volunteers needed to foster dogs and cats: The Partnership for Animal Welfare seeks volunteers to foster dogs and cats, provide transportation to vet appointments and handle animals at adoption shows. PAW is a nonprofit volunteer group that facilitates the rescue and adoption of homeless domestic animals, mainly dogs and cats, and places them in loving and stable homes.
