Owner fined for treatment of Maltese: 14400 block, Pebble Hill Lane, Gaithersburg, May 16. An anonymous caller reported a Maltese dog howling, as though in distress, while confined in a crate without water outside a residence. An animal services investigator found the dog healthy and not in distress but without water. The dog was confined in violation of county shelter requirements. The officer left the dog with its owner, who was issued a $500 fine and warned that future infractions could result in the pet’s removal from the home.

“Wagging for Wines” fundraiser: Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome at this wine tasting and auction to benefit the Montgomery County Humane Society. Tickets include samples of five of seven varietals made locally from grapes of the best-known wine regions of the world.
