Two people were fatally shot Tuesday night near Salisbury University on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, authorities said. A female student was wounded, university president Janet Dudley-Eshbach said in a statement.
She said neither of those who died was believed to be a student. The sheriff’s office in Wicomico County described the incident as a murder suicide, according to Dudley-Eshbach
The woman who was wounded was in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook posting.. The sheriff’s office described the incident as domestic- related.
It occurred on Onley Road,a residential street that begins on the eastern edge of the university campus.
Other news outlets said the man who was killed was believed to be a former Salisbury student.
Dudley-Eshbach called the news of the shooting terrible and shocking and said the university’s counseling center would be open on Tuesday.
The university, founded in 1925, enrolled more than 8,000 students at the start of the last academic year. Salisbury, a city of about 30,000, is southeast of Washington and about 120 miles away by car.
