New homeland security head for District police

D.C. Police Commander Lamar D. Greene has been promoted to assistant chief in charge of the Homeland Security Bureau for the Metropolitan Police, a police spokeswoman confirmed.
<a id="more"

He replaces Assistant Chief Patrick Burke, who now will head the department's Strategic Services Bureau. The bureau handles strategic planning, research and policy development.

Burke replaces Polly Hanson, a former chief of Metro Transit Police, who left the District job to become director of law enforcement for the U.S. Department of the Interior, said district police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump.

Greene, who joined the force in 1994, had been commander of the Fifth District in Northeast since 2007. He will be replaced by Commander Andrew Solberg, who will transfer from his post as head of the police academy. Solberg has been on the District force since 1987.
