New Year’s Eve events in Montgomery County, Dec. 31, 2013

The Garden of Lights The walk-through light display of nearly a million lights shaped into all manner of flora and fauna, rainbows and snowflakes remains open for New Year’s Eve, with music and children’s craft activities, and a train exhibit in the conservatory. Special New Year’s Eve hours 5:30-9 p.m., with last car admitted at 8:30 p.m. Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton. 301-962-1400. $20 per car.

Winter Lights Festival Seneca Creek State Park’s 3.5-mile drive-through holiday lights display (featuring 380 illuminated displays and 60 animated vignettes) remains open for its final day, with proceeds benefiting local charities. 6 to 9 p.m. Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg. 301-258-6350.

Annual New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance The DC Blues Society rings in the new year with the soul-blues band the Hardway Connection. The event includes a Southern-style dinner, party favors, champagne toast and cash bar. 7 p.m.-12:30 a.m. American Legion Post 268, 11225 Fern St., Wheaton. 301-322-4808. $35 in advance, $40 at the door.

New Year’s Eve Party with Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes The R&B band of Donnell Gillespie, Rufus Thorne, Anthony Brooks and John Morris performs at this black-tie-optional event including a four-course dinner with dessert, drinks, a champagne toast, noisemakers, balloons and party hats. 8 p.m. Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, 7719 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda. 240-330-4500. $150 all-inclusive.

Union Jack’s New Year Dance to DJ music, play pool and darts and ring in the new year with party favors. Tickets include heavy hors d’oeuvres 8-10 p.m., a champagne toast at midnight and continental breakfast after midnight. 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Union Jack’s Bethesda, 4915 St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda. From $20.

New Year’s Eve Swing Dance Lady Luck and the Suicide Kings provide live music. Light refreshments and party favors will be included. Lesson 8-9 p.m., dancing 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Glen Echo Park, Spanish Ballroom, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo. 301-634-2222. $25.
