John Pyles, 57, a special agent of the U.S. Secret Service, died of heart disease May 22 at his home in Silver Spring.
His death was confirmed by his brother, Paul Pyles.
John Christian Pyles was born in Washington and graduated in 1973 from Potomac High School in Oxon Hill. He received an associate’s degree in criminal justice at Prince George’s Community College in 1977 and a bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland in 1979.
He was a Secret Service special agent from 1980 to 2006. He served on the protective details for vice presidents Dan Quayle and Al Gore.
His marriage to Rosa Einzig ended in divorce.
Survivors include a son, Jacob S. Pyles of Silver Spring; a brother; and a sister.
