Carl H. Peter, 94, a retired project manager for the Navy Department, died May 4 at Georgetown University Hospital.
He had a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, said a nephew, Peter Brown.
Mr. Peter, a Washington resident, joined the Navy Department in 1955. He worked as a project manager in the air and weapons divisions and later worked for the Naval Air Systems Command. He retired in 1980.
Karl Heinz Peter was born in Kassel, Germany. He moved to the United States in the 1920s and changed the spelling of his first name.
He served as a pilot in the Army Air Forces during World War II and flew bomber missions in Europe. He served as an officer in the Air Force Reserve and flew transport planes until he retired as a major in 1967.
His marriage to June Lehmann ended in divorce. His wife of 52 years, Honorah Miles Peter, died in 2005.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Ann Christensen of Malabar, Fla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
